Amidst a number of undulating hills and mountains as part of East African Rift Valley Highlands, the Mtei estate farm sits in a micro- region lush with red volcanic, loamy clay soil. Orignally founded by settlers in the 1920s, this farm was transferred to Rift Valley Co-operatve union which is now leased to Mr.James Mtei, who has maintained the property as a coffee farm.
Mtei farm is around 200 Acres (110 of which is cultivated with coffee plants) and is located near the border of the Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions.
This 100% N39 strain of Bourbon is processed by first removing the fruit through pulping and then fermenting overnight. Then the coffee is washed and then put out to dry on raised drying tables in the sun. It is then handsorted before going into grain-pro bags, which offer a protective layer for export.
This coffee placed 3rd at the annual Tanzania Taste of Harvest Competition this year.
